There are 3 important maintenance services required for a lawn irrigation system.
- Backflow testing. Most Iowa cities such as Ankeny, Johnston, Polk City and Urbandale require all irrigation backflow devices be tested and inspected annually before May 31. The backflow preventer is designed to protect water supplies from contamination. LawnOxygen is a certified backflow testing company so you can rest-assured that your device will be properly tested and that the required test report will be promptly provided to your water purveyor.
- Irrigation Startup. At LawnOxygen, we don’t cut corners when it comes to starting up your irrigation system. After we have turned the water on to your irrigation system, we run through it, zone by zone, and check each head for proper operation and coverage, making adjustments as needed. We don’t just flip through the zone to see if some heads pop up and quickly move onto the next. Once we are satisfied and all heads have been checked, we check that your controller is programmed and set up an efficient watering schedule based on how much you want to water throughout the season.
- Shutdown / Winterization. Winterizing your irrigation system in Iowa is necessary to prevent freeze damage and is the last step of the season. This process involves shutting off the irrigation water supply inside, purging the water from the irrigation system lines, and using an air compressor to blow water out of the underground irrigation lines. If not done properly, damage to the irrigation system and sprinkler heads will occur, resulting in costly repairs the following year.
