How does the process of perimeter landscaping work?
We typically begin with a landscape design to help you envision what the project will look like and aid in edger, rock / mulch, and plant selection. Because we do so much of this, the quoting process is relatively simple and streamlined. The installation process begins with a meeting to paint out exactly where you would like your new edging. We then excavate and remove the sod and soil where needed and ensure a proper slope away from the house so water drains away from your home. We then install a rock base for the edgers to be installed on which provides a solid foundation to limit the affects of Iowa’s freeze/thaw cycle. Many companies install edging directly onto the dirt to cut costs and save time. This is something to be very aware of. While the edging may look good at time of completion, you can bet things are going to shift and become uneven down the road. Following installation of the edging, we install commercial-grade weed fabric and finish the project off with your choice of plants and rock or mulch.
